Every spring, New York City turns just a little bit tartan thanks to the New York Tartan Week which coincides with National Tartan Day too. Find out about this celebration of all things Scottish right here.
The 18th Annual New York Tartan Week is set to be another bonanza this April 2017, culminating in the hugely popular parade. Get set for pipe bands, whisky tasting, Scottish food, clan reunions and more as Scottish-Americans paint the town tartan in this week-long cultural event.
Sponsored by world-wide famous malt whisky makers Laphroaig, if you don’t already love whisky, now is the time to try a wee dram. Beloved the world over, the Laphroaig whisky distillery found on the western Hebridean island of Islay, has been making whisky there since 1815. Another renowned sponsor is Scottish outdoor clothing brand Barbour, who sponsor the adorable Barbour Scottie and Westie dog pack.
The main draw of the New York Tartan Week is of course the parade. This parade features bagpipe bands, marching bands, Scottish dancers and more, and is reminiscent of the famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo which takes place in that city in August. Learn to love the pipes as you take them in amongst the wonderful backdrop of New York City. Few things can rival the stirring sounds of the bagpipes, especially when the players present themselves in the impressive full Highland dress kilts.
